About this product
"Black Beauty" is a variety of Chinese peony (Paeonia lactiflora) with dark red, almost black flowers.
It flowers in May–June with a deep colour and a light spicy fragrance. Good in mixed borders, for cutting and in groups with other perennials.
It grows in sun or light part shade, is hardy (zones 3–9) and reaches about 60–90 cm.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in autumn (September) or early spring in a sunny place. The buds must sit 3–5 cm below the surface: planting too deep prevents flowering. Space plants 80–100 cm apart.
Care. Mulch with compost in spring and remove weeds. Support heavy blooms and remove faded flowers.
Watering and feeding. Water every 7–10 days in dry weather, especially before and during flowering. Give balanced fertiliser in spring and after flowering and potassium and phosphorus in autumn.
Winter care and pruning. In autumn, when the leaves turn yellow, cut all stems to the ground and remove them — this reduces the risk of fungal disease. A mature plant needs no winter cover.
