Black bed cover — a strong black sheet laid down for the long run: not for a season but for years. Weeds are left without light and disappear, the soil stays moist and warm, and the bed needs no weeding.
Its main use is perennial crops: the strawberry bed, under berry bushes, a new hedge line, a raspberry row. All of those stay in one place for years, and that is where a cover pays for itself fastest.

Advice from our agronomist
Clear the bed of perennial weeds before laying — couch grass comes through every hole and any small tear.
Apply all the fertiliser and compost you need before covering: afterwards the soil is hard to reach.
Cut planting holes as a cross, not a circle, and tuck the corners in.
Bury the edges or peg them down every metre.
On strawberries replace the cover together with the plants every four or five years: an old strawberry bed crops poorly whatever the cover.
