About this product
Black bed cover 2 x 5 m — a strong black sheet laid down for the long run: not for a season but for years. Weeds are left without light and disappear, the soil stays moist and warm, and the bed needs no weeding.
Its main use is perennial crops: the strawberry bed, under berry bushes, a new hedge line, a raspberry row. All of those stay in one place for years, and that is where a cover pays for itself fastest.
The second job of black fabric is warming the ground: in spring covered soil thaws a week or two before bare soil. Size 2 x 5 m. Producer Baltic Agro, Estonia.

Advice from our agronomist
Clear perennial weeds. Couch grass comes through every hole and any small tear — dig it out before laying, do not just cut it.
Feed before covering. Apply all the fertiliser and compost you need before the fabric goes down: afterwards the soil is hard to reach.
Cut crosses. Cut planting holes as a cross, not a circle, and tuck the corners in.
Fix every metre. Bury the edges or peg them — a loose edge is a handle for the wind.
On strawberries replace with the plants. Every four or five years: an old strawberry bed crops poorly whatever the cover.
