Pfitzer juniper "King of Spring" (Juniperus x media) is a low, wide-spreading evergreen conifer used on slopes, rock gardens and to cover large areas. Young shoots are bright green, older foliage grey-green, and the branches arch upwards and outwards.
At maturity it reaches about 0.6–0.8 m high and 1.5–2 m wide. It loves sun, is very hardy (USDA zone 3–4), drought tolerant and copes with city conditions, so it is an easy low-maintenance juniper for Estonian gardens.
Plant "King of Spring" in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, about one plant per square metre. It works as groundcover, slope stabiliser and as a low evergreen in mixed groups.

Agronomin neuvot
Planting. Plant in spring or autumn in a sunny spot, in a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Keep the root collar level with the soil and space plants 1–1.5 m apart.
Care. This juniper is undemanding and needs no regular pruning; only remove dead or damaged branches. Cut back only into live growth, never into old wood.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first year, later only during drought. Apply a conifer fertiliser in spring and avoid excess nitrogen.
Winter. The cultivar is fully hardy and overwinters in Estonia without cover. Gently shake heavy wet snow off the branches.
