About this product
Common ninebark Physocarpus opulifolius is a fast-growing, very tough deciduous shrub; this is the species form (no cultivar). Buy ninebark in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It grows 1–3 m tall with green, viburnum-like leaves. In May–June it is covered with white to pinkish flower clusters, followed in autumn by reddish, inflated seed capsules. Older stems have attractive peeling bark.
Ninebark is very hardy (USDA 3–8) and tolerates drought, poor and clay soils and urban conditions. Use it for informal or clipped hedges, screening and wildlife-friendly gardens.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant from spring to autumn; for a hedge space plants 50–70 cm apart. Water thoroughly after planting.
Watering and feeding. Water during dry spells in the first year; afterwards the shrub usually copes on its own. Compost or a shrub fertiliser in spring is enough.
Care. Prune after flowering – ninebark flowers on the previous year's wood. To rejuvenate older shrubs, remove a few of the oldest stems at ground level every couple of years.
Gardener's tip. Trim a formal hedge once or twice in summer; an informal shrub gives more flowers and decorative autumn seed heads.
