Dwarf Alberta spruce 'Conica' (Picea glauca "Conica") is the best-known dwarf conifer: dense, neatly conical, with soft light green needles and no need for clipping. This is a young plant. Buy dwarf Alberta spruce 'Conica' in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It grows very slowly – about 5–10 cm a year – reaching 2–3 m tall and 1–1.5 m wide after some twenty years. The new spring growth is especially bright and decorative.
The species is exceptionally hardy (USDA 2) and ideal for the Estonian climate. Good for small gardens, rock gardens, in pairs by an entrance and in containers.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in a spot sheltered from wind, in moist, well-drained soil. Add conifer compost to the hole and keep the root collar at soil level.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly for the first two years and in dry spells; give a deep watering before winter. Feed with conifer fertiliser in spring and mulch with bark or needles.
Care. In the first winters and in March–April shade the plant with light fleece or spruce branches – spring sun scorches the needles. Check for spider mites in summer. Remove any reverted shoot with normal vigorous growth.
Gardener's tip. In a container use a pot of at least 20–30 L and wrap it for winter – roots in a pot freeze faster than in the ground.
