Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Sow April to June direct outdoors in rows 25 cm apart, about 2 cm deep. Carrots germinate slowly, in 2–3 weeks – keep the soil surface moist.
Watering and feeding. Water evenly, especially while the roots swell – uneven moisture causes splitting. Avoid fresh manure, which makes roots fork; a bed composted the previous year is best.
Care. Thin seedlings to 4 cm and keep the bed weed-free. Fleece or mixed rows with onions help against carrot fly.
Gardener's tip. For winter storage lift the carrots in dry weather in late September – October and keep them in damp sand in a cool cellar.
