Sour cherry 'Läti-Leedu Madalkirss' (Prunus cerasus) is a local variety from Latvia and Lithuania – a low tree up to 3 m with fine, drooping branches. Buy a 'Läti-Leedu Madalkirss' sour cherry in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The cherries are small (1.5–2 cm), round and dark red, the flesh soft and juicy, the taste sweet-sour; the stone separates easily. The crop ripens in the third week of July and the juice is a deep dark red.
The variety is very winter-hardy, self-fertile and early-bearing – first fruit 2–3 years after planting. It is one of the most reliable sour cherries in Estonia; it can be susceptible to cherry leaf spot.

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Plant in a sunny spot where water does not stand – sour cherries dislike wet, heavy and acidic soil. Light to medium, well-drained, neutral soil suits best. Dig a hole about 50×50 cm and fill it with compost and garden soil.
Watering and feeding. In the first years water in dry spells, especially during flowering and fruit growth. Give a balanced fertiliser in spring and lime the soil every few years if needed.
Care. Prune in spring after flowering or in summer after harvest: thin the crown and remove old, dead and diseased branches. Rake up fallen leaves in autumn to limit cherry leaf spot.
Gardener's tip. Pick ripe cherries promptly – overripe fruit softens and birds arrive quickly. A net keeps birds away, and the low crown makes netting easy.
