Sour cherry "Maynard"

About this product
Sour cherry "Maynard" (Prunus cerasus) is a dwarf form of sour cherry with bright red, glossy fruit.
The tree is small, about 2–3 m tall, with a compact crown, so it fits a small garden. In spring it is covered in white blossom and the fruit ripens in July.
The variety is self-fertile and hardy. The sweet-sour cherries are good fresh, for jam, compote and freezing.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in a sunny, sheltered spot where water does not stand. Keep the root collar at soil level and tie the young tree to a stake.
Care. Keep the base free of weeds and mulch it. For reliable fruiting it is best to plant a second pollinating variety nearby.
Watering and feeding. In the first years water weekly in dry weather. From the third year apply a nitrogen fertiliser in spring and a potassium-phosphorus one in summer.
Winter and pruning. In spring remove dead, diseased and crowded branches and shape the crown. Whitewash the trunk for winter and protect it from rodents.
