Use. Knock the old handle out of the axe eye, clean the opening and fit the new handle so the head sits tightly. Finish by driving in the wedge to lock it.
Care. Keep the handle dry and do not leave it in the rain. Wipe it now and then and treat the wood with linseed oil.
Safety. Wear gloves and safety glasses and check before each use that the axe head is not loose. A cracked handle must be replaced.
Storage. Store the axe in a dry place, ideally with a blade guard. Avoid a damp cellar, so the handle does not swell or crack.
