Purple coneflower Echinacea purpurea "Purple Red" seeds, Nojaus 0.5 g
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a tough perennial with large purple-pink flower heads. The packet holds 0.5 g of seed from the Lithuanian producer Nojaus sėklos. Buy purple coneflower seeds in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Plants reach 70–80 cm, and the 9–10 cm flower heads brighten the border from July to August. Cut stems last about two weeks in a vase, and dried flowers are used for herbal tea.
Coneflower loves sun, tolerates light shade and stays in one place for 6 years or more. The flowers attract bees and butterflies, and the winter seed heads feed birds.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Sow in May–August direct outdoors or in a tray, 0.5–1 cm deep. Seedlings appear in 2–3 weeks. Plant out 25 × 25 cm apart in a sunny spot.
Watering and feeding. Water young plants regularly; established coneflowers cope well with drought. Add a little compost in spring – too much fertiliser makes stems flop.
Care. In the first year the plant forms a leaf rosette and usually flowers from the second year. Deadhead to prolong flowering, or leave the seed heads for birds in winter.
Gardener's tip. Cut last year's stems to the ground in spring. Divide the clump every 4–5 years to keep it flowering freely.
