Radish Raphanus sativus 'Cherry Belle' is one of the best-known early radishes, here in seed from the Lithuanian producer Nojaus sėklos. Buy 'Cherry Belle' radish seeds in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery – the packet holds 3 g.
The roots are round and bright cherry-red with crisp white flesh and a mild taste. It is quick: harvest usually comes about 3–4 weeks after emergence, and the compact tops allow close sowing, including in greenhouses and containers.
Seed germinates at just +2…+4 °C, with best growth at +18…+20 °C. Sow from April to August; radishes grow best in fertile sandy loam, and frequent watering plus a mineral feed make the flesh juicier and tastier.

Planting. Sow outdoors from April, as soon as the soil has thawed, and repeat every 10–14 days until mid-May; a second sowing runs from late July into August. Sow 1–1.5 cm deep, rows 10–15 cm apart, 3–5 cm between plants. Seed germinates at just +2…+4 °C.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist – in dry spells radishes turn woody, split and become hot. Work well-rotted compost into poor soil beforehand; do not use fresh manure.
Care. Thin seedlings at the seed-leaf stage and hoe between rows. In the long days of June–July radishes bolt easily, so skip midsummer sowings or give light shade. Cover with fleece right after sowing to keep flea beetles off.
Gardener's tip. 'Cherry Belle' also does well in a spring greenhouse: sow it in March–April between the future tomato rows – the radishes are pulled before the tomatoes go in.
