About this product

Radish "Eiszapfen" ("Icicle", Raphanus sativus) produces white, elongated roots 10–12 cm long. Buy "Eiszapfen" radish seeds (Nojaus sėklos, 3 g) in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.

It is ready in 36–40 days. The white flesh is mild and stays juicy for a long time – the roots do not quickly turn woody or lose their looks.

Grow it outdoors or in a greenhouse, in spring and autumn. Eat fresh in salads, sliced on sandwiches or as a side.

Advice from our agronomist

Planting. Sow directly from April to August, 1–2 cm deep, rows 10–15 cm apart. Seeds germinate from 2–4 °C, best growth at 18–20 °C. Sow every 2 weeks for a continuous crop.

Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist – in drought radishes turn hot and woody. Avoid fresh manure; radishes like fertile, loose soil.

Care. Thin seedlings to 3–5 cm when the first true leaf appears. Cover the bed with fleece in early spring to protect against flea beetles.

Gardener's tip. In midsummer long days make radishes bolt easily – the best crops come from spring and August sowings.
