Gooseberry 'Giggles Red' (Ribes uva-crispa) is a garden gooseberry variety for the home garden. Buy 'Giggles Red' gooseberry in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Gooseberry is a hardy fruit bush growing about 1–1.5 m tall that crops from the 2nd–3rd year after planting. In Estonia the berries ripen in July and are good fresh, for jam, compotes and baking.
The bush thrives in a sunny, airy spot and is long-lived – with correct pruning it crops for 15 years or more.

Planting. Plant in sun or light partial shade with good air movement. The soil should be fertile and moist but well-drained. Set the bush 5 cm deeper than it grew in the pot, 1–1.5 m apart.
Watering and feeding. Water in dry spells, especially while the berries swell; mulch keeps the soil moist. Give a berry fertiliser in spring and a potassium-rich feed in late summer.
Care. Prune in early spring: remove drooping, crossing and branches older than 5–6 years. An open bush is less prone to mildew and ripens its berries more evenly.
Gardener's tip. Gooseberries ripen in July. Keep the bush open and check the leaves in spring and early summer – spotting mildew and gooseberry sawfly early makes them easy to control.
