Gooseberry Ribes uva-crispa Severnõi Kapitan (Russian: Severny Kapitan) is a Russian-bred variety valued for hardiness and few thorns, with dark red, sweet-sour berries. Buying it on a standard stem gives an easy-to-pick bush for small gardens.
A standard (trained on a stem) gooseberry makes picking easy and gives good air circulation, which helps against disease. Plant in sun, feed in spring and thin the crown regularly. Tie the stem to a stake if needed. Plant on a standard stem.
