Raspberry Rubus idaeus "Baron" is a new Polish primocane (everbearing) variety that fruits on both first-year and second-year canes. Supplied in a 0.5 L pot, it can be planted throughout the growing season.
The variety was bred by Niwa Hodowla Roślin Jagodowych. The bush is vigorous and semi-upright with small thorns. Berries are regularly conical, light red, averaging 5.3–6.0 g, firm and with good shelf life. On primocanes the crop ripens early, in the first ten days of August; total yield is high.
Baron is great for fresh eating, jam and freezing. It shows low susceptibility to raspberry rust, Phytophthora, cane diseases and frost damage – a good choice for gardeners who want a long picking season.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot in fertile, well-drained soil. Space plants 40–50 cm apart in rows 1.5–2 m apart. Water well after planting and mulch.
Watering and feeding. Raspberries need even moisture, especially while the berries ripen. Feed with a nitrogen fertiliser in spring and a potassium- and phosphorus-rich berry fertiliser in the second half of summer.
Care. For two crops a year, cut out the fruited second-year canes after the summer harvest. For a single autumn crop, cut all canes to the ground in late autumn. Tie tall canes to a support.
Overwintering. Baron has low susceptibility to frost damage. Plants cut to the ground overwinter well; mulch over the roots helps in winters with little snow.
