About this product
Salad onion Allium cepa 'Totem F1' is a bunching onion for green leaves from the Estonian company Baltic Agro. Buy 'Totem' salad onion seeds in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery – the packet holds 500 seeds.
It is grown for its dark green, upright leaves and slim white shank. Plants are very uniform, the leaves resist tip browning, and the taste is mild, like a young onion – perfect for salads, soups and sandwiches.
Sow outdoors from April to July; the crop is ready in 70–80 days. Sow in batches a few weeks apart and you will have fresh green onions all summer and well into autumn.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Sow outdoors from April to July, 1 cm deep, rows 40 cm apart and 2 cm in the row (or in bands of 10–15 seeds per 30 cm). Choose a sunny spot with loose, weed-free soil.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist – in drought the leaves turn tough and yellow. Dig in compost before sowing; a month after emergence a nitrogen feed gives juicier leaves.
Care. Weed regularly – young onions cannot compete. Close-sown salad onions need no thinning: pull them in bunches as you need them.
Gardener's tip. Sow 'Totem' in batches every 3–4 weeks from April to July so the onions never get overgrown and stay tender (the producer's advice).
