Saxifrage Saxifraga 9 cm pot

About this product
Saxifrage (Saxifraga) is a low, cushion-forming perennial that covers itself with small starry flowers in spring. The species and variety of this plant are not specified – the mossy saxifrage hybrids are the ones most often grown in gardens. Buy Saxifraga in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The plant forms a dense green cushion 10–20 cm tall that slowly spreads to 30–40 cm. It flowers from April to June; depending on the variety the flowers are white, pink or red. The evergreen foliage looks good outside the flowering season too.
Garden saxifrages are hardy and suit Estonian gardens. They grow well in part shade or morning sun in well-drained, evenly moist soil. Ideal for rock gardens, wall and step edges, edging and containers.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in part shade, where the midday sun will not scorch it. Add compost and fine gravel to the planting hole so the soil stays open and water never stands. Space plants 20–25 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist but not wet, especially in the first summer. In spring a little compost or a weak perennial fertiliser is enough – overfeeding makes the cushions loose.
Care. Cut off faded flower stems after flowering to keep the cushion dense and tidy. If the centre of an old cushion starts to thin, divide the plant after flowering and replant the young pieces.
Gardener's tip. In a hot summer the north side of a rock garden or the shade of a larger stone protects saxifrage from scorching and keeps the cushions healthy and green.
