Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in full sun, 30–40 cm apart. Add a little lime to acid soil and grit to heavy soil – scabious dislikes winter wet.
Watering and feeding. Water in dry spells in the first summer; later it tolerates short dry periods. Feed lightly in spring with compost or a general fertiliser.
Care. Deadhead regularly to keep it flowering into autumn. Cut the stems down in autumn or spring.
Gardener's tip. For cutting, pick stems as the flowers have just opened. Divide every 3–4 years in spring to keep the plant vigorous.
