Sedum purpureum

Par preci
Sedum purpureum (now Hylotelephium telephium, orpine) is an old, tough tall stonecrop with thick blue-green leaves and generous flower heads. Buy Sedum purpureum in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
From August to October it carries dense pink to purple-red flower heads that later fade to burgundy-brown and stay decorative into winter. The flowers are a late-summer favourite of butterflies and bees.
The upright clump grows 45–75 cm tall and 45–60 cm wide. It is very hardy (USDA 3) and drought-tolerant – ideal for sunny borders, rock gardens and alongside other late-summer perennials.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant from spring to autumn in full sun, 40–50 cm apart. Add sand or grit to heavy soil – the roots dislike wet conditions.
Watering and feeding. Water in the first weeks after planting, later only in long droughts. Feed sparingly: rich soil makes the stems long and floppy.
Care. Leave the faded heads on over winter – they look lovely in snow. Cut the old stems down in early spring before new growth starts.
Gardener's tip. If the clump flops, cut the stems back by a third in late May (the 'Chelsea chop') – it stays more compact and flowers a little later. Divide every 4–5 years in spring.
