Stonecrop Sedum
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Stonecrop (Sedum) is an easy succulent perennial that copes with drought and poor soil better than most garden plants. There are many species and varieties – from low, mat-forming groundcovers to tall plants with large flower heads. The variety of this plant is not specified. Buy Sedum in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Depending on the species, the fleshy leaves are green, blue-grey, reddish or variegated, and the starry flowers are yellow, white, pink or red. Stonecrops flower between June and September, depending on the species, and attract bees and butterflies.
Most garden stonecrops are very hardy and well suited to the Estonian climate. They like full sun and well-drained, rather dry soil. Ideal for rock gardens, dry banks, green roofs, edging and containers.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant from spring to autumn in a sunny spot where water never stands. On heavy clay, add sand or fine gravel to the planting hole. Space low species 20–25 cm apart and tall ones 30–40 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water only after planting and during long dry spells – excess moisture is more dangerous for stonecrop than drought. Little feeding is needed: a small amount of compost or perennial fertiliser in spring is enough.
Care. On mat-forming species, trim off faded flower heads after flowering. The dry stems of tall species can be left over winter and cut back in spring. Divide clumps every 3–4 years.
Gardener's tip. Stonecrop is one of the best plants for spots where everything else dries out: at the foot of a sunny wall, between stones or in a bowl on the terrace.
