Red onion Allium cepa "Karmen" seeds, Agronom 1 g
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Onion "Karmen" (Allium cepa) is a medium-late Czech variety with a dark red bulb, coloured right through all the layers. Buy "Karmen" onion seeds (Agronom, 1 g) in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The bulbs are medium-sized with tight skins and a high dry-matter content. The flavour is mild and medium-sweet – ideal for salads and eating raw.
It is a long-day type, so it suits the Estonian summer, and stores well through winter. Sources also note better downy mildew resistance than many other varieties.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Sow indoors in February–March or directly in April, 1–1.5 cm deep, rows 25–30 cm apart. Plant out seedlings in early May 8–10 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water evenly until mid-July, then stop so the bulbs ripen and store well. Apply compost or an onion fertiliser in spring; avoid fresh manure.
Care. Weed and hoe regularly. Harvest in August–September when the tops fall over and dry the bulbs for 2–3 weeks under cover.
Gardener's tip. Store dried onions cool (0–5 °C) and dry – "Karmen" then keeps until spring.
