About this product
Rowan Sorbus Granatnaja – a medium-sized tree; the fruit is large, slightly angular and dark red, with yellow, sweet-tart flesh and a rowan flavour; regarded as one of the tastiest rowan cultivars.
A small tree that gives an abundant crop of vitamin-rich berries in autumn. The berries are good for juice, jam, preserves and jelly; in spring the tree decorates the garden with white blossom, and in autumn with red fruit and coloured foliage.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring (late April – May) or autumn (September) in a sunny or partly shaded spot with fertile, well-drained soil; wet spots with standing water are unsuitable. Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot, mix the excavated soil with compost, set the plant at the same depth it grew in the pot and water generously. Space plants 3–4 m apart.
Watering Water a young plant regularly for the first two years and more often in dry spells; an established shrub is fairly drought-tolerant and needs watering only in long dry periods. Mulch the soil with bark or wood chips.
Pruning Prune in spring before bud break: shape the crown, remove dead, crossing and inward-growing branches and seal large cuts with tree paint.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring with compost or an organic fertiliser and, if needed, with a complex fertiliser in spring – early summer; give no nitrogen in autumn. The tree is hardy in Estonia; protect the trunk of a young tree with whitewash or spruce boughs against hares and frost cracks.
