Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Spiraea betulifolia (birch-leaved spiraea) is a low, compact spiraea from East Asia whose leaves resemble birch leaves. This listing is for assorted varieties in a small 9 cm pot – the variety depends on availability. Buy birch-leaved spiraea in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
In early summer the shrub is covered with flat white flower clusters. It stays 0.5–1 m tall and wide, dense and rounded. In autumn the leaves turn yellow, copper or red, depending on the variety.
The species is very hardy, undemanding and grows in any garden soil. Use it for low hedges, edging, rock gardens, mixed borders and containers.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in sun or partial shade. Set the small 9 cm potted plant at the same depth it grew in the pot, adding a little compost. For a hedge, space plants 40–50 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly after planting and in the first summer, later only in drought. Give a little balanced fertiliser or compost in spring.
Care. Remove faded flower heads after flowering to keep the shrub tidy. In early spring cut out old, weak and frost-damaged branches and shorten shoots if needed to keep the shape.
Gardener's tip. A small potted plant grows quickly: keep the area weed-free and mulched in the first year, and in 2–3 years the shrub will be dense and full of flowers.
