About this product
Japanese meadowsweet (Spiraea japonica) "Goldflame" is a low deciduous shrub whose new foliage is orange-red, later yellow-green and golden again in autumn.
The shrub grows 60–90 cm tall and up to 1 m wide. From July to September it is decorated with dense pink-red flower clusters that attract butterflies.
The cultivar is hardy (USDA zone 3–4) and easy to grow. It prefers sun and suits low hedges, rock gardens, the front of borders and large containers.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or autumn in a sunny spot, spacing shrubs 50–70 cm apart. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and mix in compost.
Care. Mulch the soil and weed. If the shrub throws fully green shoots, cut them out, otherwise the cultivar colouring is lost.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first years, more in hot weather; later it tolerates short droughts. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser.
Winter and pruning. Hardy, no winter cover needed. In early spring before growth starts cut the shrub back to 10–15 cm, which makes it denser and gives more colourful new shoots.
