About this product

Anglo-Japanese yew Taxus × media "Groenland" is a slow-growing, dense, upright evergreen conifer with glossy dark-green needles. It reaches about 1.5 m and more.

The compact, easily clipped shrub suits hedges, topiary and specimen planting. The needles stay dark green in winter.

Very hardy (to −35 °C), it grows in sun or part shade. All parts of the plant (except the red aril) are poisonous.

Advice from our agronomist

Planting. Plant in spring or autumn in sun or part shade, in well-drained neutral soil; standing water is not tolerated. For a hedge plant 3–4 plants per running metre.

Care. Mulch with bark. Keep animals and children from eating the needles or berries because the plant is poisonous.

Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first year and in dry spells later. Feed in spring with a conifer or general-purpose fertiliser.

Winter and pruning. Overwinters without cover. Clip in August–September or in spring; yew also regrows from old wood.
