Arborvitae "Brabant", approx. 2 m

About this product
Arborvitae "Brabant" (Thuja occidentalis) is a fast-growing evergreen conifer with a dense pyramidal crown — one of the most popular cultivars for tall, thick hedges. These plants are about 2 m tall, so you get a screen straight away.
It grows 20–40 cm a year; left unclipped it can exceed 10 m, while hedges are usually kept at 2–3 m. The foliage is bright green and stays green in winter. "Brabant" is very hardy (USDA zone 3), wind-resistant and tolerates clipping well.
Ideal for dense hedges, windbreaks and privacy screens facing neighbours or a road, and as a specimen in larger gardens. A good choice when you need a tall green wall quickly.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, plant at the same depth and stake for the first year. For a hedge, space 2 m plants about 60–80 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. For the first two years water deeply in dry spells and always before winter. Feed with conifer fertiliser in spring; no nitrogen after August.
Care and pruning. Because it grows fast, clip the hedge once or twice a year (early June and, if needed, early August). Mulch keeps the soil moist and weed-free.
Winter. A hardy cultivar. In the first spring shade young plants on the south side with fleece against spring sun, and water well in autumn. Shake heavy wet snow off the branches.
