Eastern arborvitae "Mirjam" — a dwarf cultivar of Thuja occidentalis with golden-yellow foliage that forms a dense globe-to-egg-shaped shrub, ideal for small gardens, rockeries and containers.
It grows slowly (about 0.6–1 m according to nursery catalogues); the foliage is bright gold in summer and turns bronze in winter. The cultivar is also sold under the trade name Golden Child and copes well with northern climates.
Use it as a specimen accent, along paths or in contrast with green conifers. The cultivar needs no shaping and is hardy to about USDA zone 3.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant from April to May or in September in sun or light part shade. Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained; some lime is tolerated. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, keep the root collar level with the ground, water thoroughly and mulch with 5 cm of bark.
Care. The cultivar keeps its own shape, so no clipping is needed; remove only dead twigs. Colour is best in full sun and turns greener in shade.
Watering and feeding. Water young plants once or twice a week until autumn, more in dry spells, and never let the root ball dry out completely. Feed with a conifer fertiliser in spring and early summer; avoid nitrogen from August.
Winter care and pruning. Hardy, but cover young plants with spruce boughs in the first winters and shelter them from winter sun and heavy wet snow; do not cut into old wood.
