Eastern arborvitae Thuja occidentalis "Rheingold" is a slow-growing dwarf conifer with golden-yellow summer and coppery-bronze winter foliage. The habit is egg-shaped to conical, and young plants carry soft needle-like juvenile leaves.
In ten years it reaches about 1-1.5 m, eventually 2-2.5 m tall and around 1.5 m wide. It suits rock gardens, heather beds, dwarf conifer groupings and large containers.
"Rheingold" is hardy (USDA zone 3), and its colour is richest in full sun. It tolerates light shaping.
