Planting. Plant from April to May or in September in sun or light part shade. Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained; limy and temporarily wet soil is tolerated. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, keep the root collar level with the ground, water thoroughly and mulch with 5 cm of bark.
Care. Clip hedges in spring and midsummer, leaving green growth. Shedding of inner needles in autumn is normal.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first years, once or twice a week in dry summers; mulch retains moisture. Feed with a conifer fertiliser in spring and early summer; avoid nitrogen from August.
Winter care and pruning. Very hardy. Shelter young plants from spring sun and drying wind to prevent browning of the foliage.
