Slug and snail control gel, 1 l, Baltic Agro
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Slug and snail gel — a product against the Spanish slug (Arion vulgaris) and other slugs, which have become a serious problem in Estonian gardens in recent years. An adult slug eats roughly its own weight in leaves overnight, and one animal lays up to 400 eggs in a season.
The gel works as a barrier: you draw a line of it around a bed, across a greenhouse doorway or along the rim of a planter, and slugs will not cross it. Unlike pellets, the gel is not washed about by rain and does not end up where it should not.
The bottle holds 1 litre. It works best applied in late May and early June, when the young slugs have just hatched: one treatment then stops the damage for the whole summer. Producer Baltic Agro, Estonia.

Advice from our agronomist
Read the instructions and safety notes on the pack before treating, and follow them exactly.
Lay the barrier in dry weather and renew it after heavy rain.
A barrier only works if the line is unbroken: one gap and the slugs will find it.
At the same time make the garden uncomfortable for them: cut long grass around the beds, clear hiding places under boards and stones, and water in the morning rather than the evening.
Collecting at night with a torch is still the most effective measure — the barrier keeps them out, collecting reduces their numbers.
