DLF SUN is a drought-tolerant lawn seed mixture for sunny, dry sites from the Danish seed company DLF. It also suits slopes and the banks of ponds, tolerates trampling and needs no special care. Buy SUN lawn seed 1 kg in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The mixture contains 45% creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra), 40% perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) and 15% hybrid ryegrass (Lolium × boucheanum). The ryegrasses germinate quickly and give fast green cover, while the red fescue forms a dense, drought-tolerant sward through its rhizomes and recovers quickly from damage.
The result is a dense, dark green and hard-wearing lawn that also grows in light shade. The sowing rate is 30–35 g/m², so a 1 kg pack is enough for about 30 m² of new lawn or up to 60 m² of overseeding. Instructions on the pack include English.

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Sow from May to early September, when the soil is warm and moist. Loosen the soil, remove weed roots and stones, level and roll lightly. Sow half the seed in one direction and half crosswise, rake it in to 0.5–1 cm and roll again.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil constantly moist until germination (7–14 days) – water daily with a fine spray, twice in hot weather. Apply a starter fertiliser before sowing and later lawn fertiliser 3–4 times a season; use an autumn lawn feed in autumn.
Care. Mow for the first time when the grass is 8–10 cm tall, removing no more than a third of its length. Later keep the lawn at 5–6 cm on a dry, sunny site – longer grass shades the soil and copes better with drought.
Gardener's tip. In a dry summer water rarely but deeply (10–15 l/m² once a week) – the roots then grow deeper and the lawn stays green. In spring bare patches are easily repaired by overseeding with the same mixture.
