About this product

Shade netting 1.5 x 20 m — a mesh fabric that takes part of the sun out of a hot day. In a greenhouse the temperature runs past 35 degrees in sunshine, and then tomatoes and cucumbers stop pollinating: the flower drops and no fruit sets. Shade netting keeps the temperature in the working range.

Outdoors it covers freshly planted stock that has not yet rooted, and summer-sown lettuce that would bolt in full sun. In autumn the same net serves to protect conifers from the spring sun.

The mesh passes air and rain, so no stifling damp builds up underneath. Size 1.5 x 20 m. Producer Baltic Agro, Estonia.

Advice from our agronomist

On the greenhouse roof. Fit the net on the outside, not inside: outside it stops the sun before it passes the glass; inside the heat is already in.

Do not leave it all summer. Shading is a measure for hot days. Through a cloudy week the extra shade takes light from the plants and the crop suffers.

New plantings. Cover freshly planted stock for a week or two until the roots take. Then remove it, or the plants stay weak.

For conifers in spring. The worst damage comes from the February and March sun: fit the net on the east and south sides, not overhead.

Fix it properly. The net is light and the wind takes it — cord or pegs every metre.
