Plants grow 40–60 cm tall with glossy green leaves and a sweet cinnamon-and-spice aroma. Pick the leaves before flowering, when they are most fragrant.

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Sow indoors in March–April in moist seed compost, barely cover the seeds and keep at 20–25 °C to germinate. Plant out or into a greenhouse in early June after frosts, 25–30 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water moderately in the morning so the leaves dry by evening – basil dislikes cold water and wet soil. Give a weak liquid feed twice a month.
Care. Pinch out the tips above 3–4 pairs of leaves so the plant branches and gives more leaves. Remove flower buds to extend the harvest.
Gardener's tip. In Estonia basil does best in a greenhouse, on a balcony or windowsill; outdoors choose the warmest sunny corner.
