Advice from our agronomist
When to sow. Sow directly in the bed from April to August at two-week intervals, seeds 0.5–1 cm deep; 10–20 °C suits germination, which is poor in hot weather.
Sowing. Thin plants to 10–15 cm, rows 20–25 cm apart. In summer choose a semi-shaded spot so the lettuce does not bolt.
Care. Water regularly, preferably in the morning; keep the soil moist but not wet. Protect against pests (slugs, flea beetles).
Feeding and harvest. Feeding is usually unnecessary. Pick leaves 30–45 days after sowing, starting with the outer ones; harvest before flowering.
