About this product
Redcurrant 'Holandes' is a traditional red-fruited currant for the home garden. Buy a Ribes rubrum 'Holandes' redcurrant bush in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Redcurrants bear long strigs of glossy red berries that are fresh and tart and rich in vitamin C and pectin – best for jelly, juice, jam and baking. The crop usually ripens in July.
The bush grows about 1–1.5 m tall, is very winter-hardy and self-fertile, and crops in one place for many years – well suited to Estonian gardens.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or autumn in a sunny spot, 1.2–1.5 m apart. Add compost to the hole and plant 5–8 cm deeper than in the pot to build a strong bush.
Watering and feeding. Water in dry spells, especially as the berries ripen. In spring give compost or a berry fertiliser; in the second half of summer only potassium and phosphorus. Mulch under the bush.
Care. Redcurrants fruit on older wood, so in early spring remove only branches older than 5–6 years, diseased and crowding ones, keeping 10–15 shoots of different ages.
Gardener's tip. Pick whole strigs once the berries are fully red – they can hang on the bush for another 1–2 weeks. Net the crop against birds.
